The Nine Network will look to the former success of Blue Heelers, and the current popularity of Rush when it goes into pre-production mode for its new drama series.
It was confirmed this week that the landmark channel would focus on a new cop/drama show for next year’s audience.
The new series will be titled Cops L.A.C (Local Area Command) and will be based in the city of Sydney.
It will be based around a local community police station and will comprise of three uniformed cops and three plain-clothed cops tackling the local crime in the area.
Nine Programmer, Michael Healy, confirmed the rumours recently.
“We’re working on another Australian drama which is in pre-production at the moment and shaping up really well,” he said.
It comes as a breath of fresh air around the country, as the television world seems to be finally moving on from the reality TV phenomenon, and heading back into the quality drama we once were so accustomed to in the 90s.
Cops L.A.C is a step into the right direction of winning back the fans of great Aussie drama, especially those who were fans of the former Channel Seven series, Blue Heelers.
The cop drama rated through the roof in the first few seasons before eventually running out of steam.
The Nine Network will be hoping it carries the same success and will give the channel the much-needed ratings it is looking for.
Nine will officially unveil its 2010 programming in early December.
