Three Rivers Given the Flick

The search for the next big medical series continues to prove to be a tough task, with Ten’s new doctor drama, Three Rivers, given the flick by network producers.

After only one episode, the new series was taken off the programming list drawing poor ratings on its premier night.

The high, heart-pulsing drama saw just 499,000 people tune in on Wednesday night, well behind the leading programmes on the night, sitting fourth in its time-slot.

The lack in figures highlights the challenges the show faces as it tries to compete against the highly popular NCIS: LA, which won the  9:30 to 10:30 time frame with 1.07 million viewers.

The show’s debut was also complicated by the network switching the premiere to Episode Two after CBS introduced a character in its second episode who had already appeared in the first. The network says CBS gave them permission for the switch.

It was disappointing news for AUSSIE actor Alex O’Loughlin, who broke up with glamour girl Holly Valance to be part of the series.

It comes as no surprise that the series will be replaced next week by a repeat of NCIS.
Three Rivers had attracted poor ratings in the United States and so far in its two-episode run it has received only average reviews.

The Ten Network is yet to announce what they will do with the remaining episodes, and with no room for it in their digital sporting channel, it may very well end up on the scrap heap of Australian television.
