Rival television networks, Seven and Nine, plan to cash in on the success of Channel Ten’s high rating programme, Master Chef, by launching their own versions of the reality TV cooking show.

The Nine Network is currently recruiting participants for their reality challenge show, The Coles Great Aussie Cook Off, with the series expected to screen later this year.

With a slight difference to Master Chef, the new show is aimed at finding Australia’s best family of cooks, and will air during the daytime rather than in a prime time slot.

And while Seven is remaining tight lipped on their latest cooking show, it has been reported that it will be ready by the end of the year with the aim of presenting a challenge to the Channel Ten series.

Ten chief programmer, David Mott, said he was not worried by the moves of rival networks and is confident the success of Master Chef, which drew an average national audience of 3.72 million viewers, will continue during season two.

While Mott was not surprised by the moves, he doubted viewers will be fooled.

“It’s try-hard and it’s been done. I don’t think audiences will respond,” he said.

Auditions for Nine’s Coles Great Aussie Cook Off wrap up this week with the final auditions at Brisbane’s Westfield Chermside, 10am this Saturday.
