Idol Ratings Plummet

Ratings continue to decline for the once almighty reality TV series, Australian Idol, with crowd figures sinking well under the million mark over the weekend.

Sunday night’s show saw only 890,000 viewers tune in, its second lowest ratings figures in the franchises history.

The lowest recording was 883,000, also during this year’s series.

Idol has gone under what many may call a development stage this year, with the sacking of judge Kyle Sandilands, and the recruitment of new talent, Jay Dee, and Rikki Lee Coulter as a new host.

It seems viewers have finally had enough of the Channel Ten series, with the networks persistence to drag the show out across two hours, resulting in viewer fatigue.

Last Sunday was also an even longer night with no elimination due to the withdrawal of South Australian school teacher, Toby Moulton, last week.

Channel Ten’s status of being the number one reality TV network seems to have finally caught up with them, with the genre finally receiving the thumbs down from the public after all the years.

Now defunct series, Big Brother, was eventually dumped after mediocre ratings, which still averaged around one million viewers.

Idol’s recent slump puts in grave danger of receiving the same treatment as Big Brother in 2008.

Time will only tell the fate of the singing series, but network producers face tough decision making at the seasons end, with many new series pilots on the drawing board.
