After a nation wide search for new media personalities, the ABC have recruited 19 new faces to take part in the new journalism/comedy/news show, Hungry Beast.
Set to premiere tomorrow night at 9pm, the Hungry Beast will produce a half-hour of topical TV, as well as daily web content and bringing viewers news from outside the loop.
The aim of the show is to produce stories that are not part of regular news cycles, or news items which cover current stories, but with a fresh angle.
The man behind the project, Andrew Denton, said the show will be something Australia has never seen before.
“Some of it is News, or more Topical than News. Some of it is Comedy and some it is in a strange nether world in between the two,” Denton said.
“I guess a better way to think of it is, in a traditional sense, like a showcase for new talent coming from all different directions. In a more contemporary sense it’s a bit like the internet, where you click between different worlds.
“You might see something stupid on YouTube, and then go to a very serious site about climate change. Then you might go to an email from someone you really like, and then you might go onto something about your favourite TV show. So it’s like that… where you click in between different worlds.”
With many comparisons beginning to be drawn on the Hungry Beast and existing shows like the 7PM Project, Denton is quick to laugh off the claims.
“When people ask the team what the show is going to be, they usually respond by saying it will be somewhere between the 7.30 Report and the 7PMProject - so think of it as the 7.15 Reject.”
Hungry Beast will be repeated on ABC2 Thursday, October 01 at 8:30pm.
