Despite the controversy surrounding the ‘black face’ skit, Hey Hey it’s Saturday will be returning to television next year.
After making a return to Australian families living rooms this year with a handful of ‘special’ comebacks, the series will become more of a regular show in 2010 with 20 episodes penciled in.
It was originally rumoured that the series, hosted by Daryl Somers, would only run for 10 episodes, each titled ‘specials’ by network producers.
But reports in major newspapers around Australia today have confirmed that figure is now doubles, making the series more of a full season, than just a special run.
The show will air on Wednesday nights, and despite the fact it is not on a Saturday, it will keep its title.
Negotiations for the show’s return have been long, but Somers has been in a strong bargaining position given the popularity of the Hey Hey brand and the success to which his team delivered it.
However, the cast may not be the full start studded line up as it has always been in the past, with Molly Meldrum apparently in contract disputes with channel Seven, which would stop his return to the show.
Seven and Foxtel relented on the music guru appearing in the reunions, but it was always as a one-off agreement.
Nobody can call them party poopers for now expecting their talent to remain loyal to their network.
The return of Hey Hey its Saturday now means the Nine Melbourne Studios will get a fair workout, with sharing duties between the show and the popular AFL Footy Show.
