Chris Lilley fans will have to wait yet another year before getting a glimpse of his new comedy series Angry Boys, with confirmation the new show won’t be hitting our small screens until next year.
After the success of his previous projects, We Could Be Heroes and Summer Heights High, Lilley’s newest show has flagged interest from not just the ABC TV, but also US network HBO and the BBC in the UK.
Currently, the show is still filming its final scenes, the latest at the surfing town of Torquay, just past Geelong.
Streets are being closed off as the main street; beaches and surrounding bush land are used as locations with over 200 local residents playing extras and small roles. Last week the show was filming at Highpoint Shopping Centre in Maribyrnong.
Lilley said he was keen to close the sets to keep up levels of public interest.
“We’ve been shooting the show since November 2009 and most of the series has been on closed sets, so to be out in the public is very exciting,” he said.
Producer of Angry Boys, Laura Waters, was also impressed by the welcoming nature of the surf coast locals.
“The local people of Torquay have been so welcoming and the location is going to look amazing on screen,” she said.
“We will be bringing the beauty of this Victorian beach to the world.”
Despite the distant launch date for the series, ABC will still have the rights to the show’s World Premiere.
