Thousands of Aussies across the nations are today coming to grips with the fact the award winning drama, All Saints, is gone forever from our TV sets.
The Australian medical drama has been a part of viewers lives for the past 12 years, with nearly 500 episodes gracing our small screens.
After being announced by the Seven Network in June this year that the series would cease production in August due to budgetary constraints, fans have had time to prepare themselves for the final installment of the Logie award winning series.
The decision was made after the success of cheaper medical alternative programmes such as, Last Chance Surgery and Medical Emergency.
Both are well under the half a million dollar an episode budget of All Saints, and have also rated higher in recent times.
Another reason for the decision has been linked with the networks aim of drawing in a younger audience.
Last nights final episode was a bit like a walk down memory lane for fans, with cameo appearances, or flashbacks, of past characters including Georgie Parker, Erik Thomson, Libby Tanner, Belinda Emmett and Mark Priestley.
The sole original cast member since its premiere in 1998, Judith McGrath, has admitted she is still coming to grips with not being part of the show anymore.
“I’m sorry for the show, it’s still rating,” said McGrath, who plays nurse Yvonne Ryan in the series.
“It still had life, but that’s a mahogany row (Seven executives’) decision, isn’t it Every TV show has its life and you hear things about new shows being started and they take shows (off the air) to make room for the new.”
