Sandilands Sacked from Idol

Shock-jock Kyle Sandilands has been dumped form the Channel Ten Reality singing series, Australian Idol.

His sacking comes a week after the controversial station stunt on his 2DayFM breakfast show, where a 14 year old girl confessed to being raped while hooked up to a lie detector.

The public backlash and media criticisms seem to have tarnished Sandilands’ reputation even further, making it hard for the Idol producers to persevere with the polarizing judge whilst keeping the family image of the show.

It is a double blow for Sandilands who has also had his “Kyle and Jackie O’” breakfast show pulled from the air indefinitely until a decision on its future is been made

In a statement released by the Ten Network, Sandilands was thanked for his contribution to the show and his commitment over the past years.

“We thank Kyle for his contribution to Australian Idol over the last four years but it has become increasingly clear that as Idol has remained a family focused show, even more so this year with the 6.30pm Sunday time slot, his radio persona has taken on a more controversial position over this period which is not in the interest of the show.”

In response, King Kyle Management issued a brief comment:

“I’m disappointed at Channel 10’s decision to remove me from Australian Idol. I have truly loved being a part of the show and wish everyone involved all of the success for this coming season.”

Despite being axed, Sandilands will feature in the first three episodes of the show after having already filmed a series of auditions.

Discussions on who will join Marcia Hines and Ian “Dicko” Dickson on the judges table will continue over the next few weeks with a decision needed before the live performance shows commence on August 24th.

Australian Idol returns for its seventh series this Sunday at 6:30pm on TEN.
