Rove Finally Finishes up

It’s an end of an era for Australian television, with the shock announcement last night that Rove McManus will not be returning to his self titled reality show next year.

After ten years of the highly rated variety show, McManus revealed the news to viewers, saying the show would be the last.

Fans of the show have since expressed their dismay over the shock decision and were left disappointed at the lack of notice given.

Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook were bombarded with tributes, including one from Rove regular Pete Hellier, who paid his respects to the successful show, and its much loved host

“Rove McManus is the most talented, generous, humble, hilarious, encouraging, inspiring, kindest and loyal man I have met,” Helliar posted on Twitter.

The announcement is believed to have come off the back of numerous talks with network officials over the future of the show and the channel.

It is unsure whether we will even see Rove on our small screens at all next year, with his other programme, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader yet to confirmed in the 2010 schedule.

“It is very short notice, I do realize that. But it’s only a decision that I came up with very recently,” the three time Gold Logie winner said on his show.

“And to be honest I didn’t want a whole lot of fuss going into tonight as I don’t going out the other end as well.”

It has been rumored that McManus is set to now head into the radio industry, filling the vacant spot left by Tim Ross in the Sydney breakfast show on Nova 96.9.
