One of Hollywood’s most adored public figures, Patrick Swayze, has died today aged 57 after finally losing his long battle with cancer.
The TV and Movie Star was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March last year and despite a brave fight, passed away at home, surrounded by his family and friends.
A statement released on Monday evening (US time) by his publicist read:
“Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months.”
Even in his final weeks, Swayze refused doctors orders to rest and continued on with his life passion - Acting.
The blonde boyish actor was made famous for his roles in smash hit movies including Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break and Road House, but it was TV which was braced with the ‘hunk’ in his final years.
While undergoing chemotherapy, Swayze worked hard to film a television series, the police drama “The Beast”, where he played a leading role.
There is no word on weather the series will screen in Australia, but it did prove a hit in the States, drawing an average of 1.3 million viewers for the 13 episodes.
The three-time Golden Globe nominee’s career has been nothing but flamboyant, and since the days of Dirty Dancing he has become a customary name in all living rooms around the world.
A loved man by all, Patrick Swayze will be sorely missed everyone in the film and television industry.
Rest in Peace Patrick…
