He may have ended his playing days on 199 games, but former cat, Tom Harley, will take part in many more AFL matches over the coming years in a different way, this time off the ground.
Fresh from the joys of a an AFL Grand Final victory, the marriage of his new wife, and the relaxation of retirement, the former Geelong dual premiership captain has wasted no time in finding a new career.
The tall, bald headed veteran of the sport has been signed by Channel Seven as an addition of their AFL commentary team.
Having already experienced the Holy Grail twice in his career, Harley shocked the football world, and his beloved fans at Geelong, when he announced his retirement just weeks after the Grand Final.
He will now join Bruce McAvaney, Dennis Cometti, Leigh Matthews and Tim Watson in Friday Nights coverage of the Football with his commentary role yet to be fully confirmed.
Channel Seven Melbourne General Manager, Lewis Martin, said the stars football experience will help him when in the box.
“Tom’s been renowned for his courage, leadership and footy knowledge throughout his AFL career,” He said.
“He brings great character and style to his new role and will deliver forthright, honest and eloquent commentary to footy fans.”
Harley will also join the crew regularly on AFL Game Day, another football programme on the network.
The new role will not be the first time for Harley in a presenting/hosting role, having also been a regular panelist on One’s One Week at a Time throughout the year.
