Following the effects from his breakfast radio stunt gone wrong, in which a 14 year-old girl publicly admitted to being raped, Australian Idol judge Kyle Sandilands is now in risk of losing his spot on the highly rated Channel Ten reality series.
Idol producers have been meeting with Ten Network executives to discuss the future of the show and more importantly the possible axing of Sandilands.
“There’s no answer on his (Sandilands) future yet … Meetings have been taking place and will continue to do so early next week,” a network spokesperson told news.com.au
“But we’re taking this really seriously.”
The network is believed to be under immense pressure by their overseas owner, 19 Entertainment, to preserve the show’s family appeal, and with Kyle’s controversial history, removing him from the panel of judges’ may be a solution.
“Idol is a family program…and our executives will continue discussions over the weekend,” the spokesperson said.
Sandilands, who has apologised for the stunt, has already filmed the audition tour for the show, but could be replaced before the live Sunday shows get underway.
A public announcement on the future of Kyle Sandilands on Australian Idol is expected to be made by Fremantle Media on Tuesday.
