David Reyne, host of the successful Channel Ten show, 9AM with David and Kim, has today announced he will quit the show at seasons end.
After replacing Bert Newton’s highly popular, Good Morning Australia, show in 2006, the weekday show had been rating poorly in recent times averaging a lowly 90,000 viewers per episode.
In comparison to its rival shows, The Morning Show and Mornings with Kerri-Anne, 9AM with David and Kim recently been viewed as a rating disaster and one can only imagine what the future holds for the show with the departure of Reyne.
In a statement released today, the former Getaway host said that while he was grateful for the opportunity to host the show, he will be happy to have some time off for himself.
“After 4 years of hosting 9AM I have decided to hand in my notice to Network TEN. Over almost 1,800 hours of the program I’ve run with the whole gamut of topics from global warming, the GFC, celebrity gossip to choosing the right vase for your Mother’s Day flowers and reading tea leaves. It’s been truly exhilarating, occasionally excruciating and utterly exhausting,” Reyne said.
“I know it’s customary at a time like this for the exiting host to say something gratuitous about their employer – but I truly mean it when I say that it’s been a great delight for me to have worked with the magnificent team of people at Network TEN. I’m very grateful for their support over the past 4 years.”
“For the time being I’m just looking forward to a long lie down over summer while thinking about what 2010 may hold in store for me.”
Ten programmer David Mott indicated said he would review all areas of the show in the coming weeks and thanked Reyne for his service to the network.
“9AM was a brand new venture back in 2006 and David’s good humour and skill have been fundamental in establishing the loyal audience base we enjoy now,” Mott said.
“We have appreciated and enjoyed working with David over the last 4 years.”
“We will miss him and wish him well.”
