The Seven Network has finally joined in the digital TV party with rumours widely predicting they will launch their new digital channel on November 22.
The Network’s CEO, David Leckie, reportedly sent a letter to OzTam, Australia’s leading television ratings research firm, giving them eight weeks notice of the launch so that ratings would be available for the channels first broadcast.
Channel Nine’s digital channel, GO!, made the mistake of not giving ample time and subsequently missed out on receiving the breakout ratings, but the Seven network were determined not to make the same mistake.
But while it seems certain they will be launching in the next two months, Seven’s corporate affairs spokesperson Simon Francis remained tight lipped on the subject, revealing the network were still yet to announce their plans for multi-channelling.
“While we can understand the speculation, we’ll maintain a polite silence until we choose to release our plans,” he said.
Sources lead us to believe the new addition to free to air television will be located on channel 72.
The name of the station is yet to be announced either but several names have already been registered, including PLUS7 and 7PLUS.
In terms of the variety of the programming and the channels target demographic, very little has bee leaked, however, it is thought the station would target a similar youth genre just like Nine’s GO!.
Programmes such as Ugly Betty and 24 are expected to be some of the drawcards on the new channel.
