Every year the nominations are announced and there is a sea of anticipation that awaits. It is not just those in the UK that look forward to the National Television Awards (NTA) as any show can be nominated, any TV show can win.But this year the annual show could be postponed after the ITV network announced they would be cutting jobs after they had losses of £2.7 billion for 2008.

The network also announced they would have to make heavy cuts to its programming budget- placing the National Television Awards in doubt.

It is the most anticipated and prominent awards ceremony in Britain and began in 1995. Every year the National Television Awards kick off in October, making it a TV event one cannot forget. But this year it may not even go ahead. The most exciting part about this TV event is that the general public votes the results of the awards.

Every year, the National Television Awards aims to give the people in Britain the chance to decide what is the ‘Most popular’ show on television. It’s not about the ‘best’ British show, rather it is about finding popular programs screened on British TV. You could compare the NTA to the Australian Logie Awards, enabling the public to have their say on which show is the most entertaining and popular.

Last year over 5.3 million viewers watched the National Television Awards.
