Lost and Battlestar Galactica Win TV Saturn Awards

The Saturn Awards have just wrapped up for another year and it seems TV shows are taking over. Battlestar Galactica and Lost have both received TV kudos, taking out Saturn Awards for the TV categories.

Battlestar Galactica won a third Saturn Award for best cable/syndicated TV series as well as actors stars Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell taking out first-time acting awards.

Lost was not too far behind, winning their forth Saturn Award for best network series. The popular TV show couldn’t quite match the sci-fi series, blanked in acting races with Heroes and Dexter stars taking the titles.

The Award show only began giving awards to Television programs in 1989, “Star Trek: The Next Generation” the first to receive the prestigious Saturn Award. And Battlestar Galactica is keeping the sci-fi genre alive with their multiple award recognition.

Now, all genres of television are well represented and fantasy, horror, action, adventure and thriller are all awarded for their television talents.

Heroes has been a popular TV series for the past few years, winning many Saturn Awards and leads Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly alongside supporting cast Michael Emerson, Henry Ian Cusick, Yunjin Kim, Josh Holloway, and Elizabeth Mitchell were nominated yet again.

2009 gave the Saturn Awards a new guest acting category and unlike the Emmy’s, the Saturn Awards did not distinguish between actor and actress. The Saturn Awards began in 1972 and members of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror decide who are the overall winners.

The Saturn Awards began to honour those films that were often overlooked and over the past few years the awards have expanded to include TV awards. Each year new television programs are awarded for their talent, and even DVD awards were include in the Saturn Awards come 2003.
