Cowell to Step Down as Idol Judge

The news keeps going from bad to worse for the singing reality television series, Idol, with news the American shows judge, Simon Cowell, will leave the show at the end of the year.

While many versions of the franschise continue to decline in ratings across the globe, the American version of the show has still been relatvely succesful, and Cowell has been instrumental in ensuring this.

He has been there since the beginning, winning over the hearts of the avid viewers along the way.

Cowell’s decision to step down is believed to have been made to allow him to concentrate on his new project, launching a US version of The X Factor.

He has agreed to a deal with Fox to launch the entertainment show in 2011 and an agreement was announced on Monday night, with Cowell exited by the new opportunity.

ā€œI’m thrilled that we have put a date on the launch of the US version of The X Factor, and delighted to be continuing to work with Fox. We have a fantastic relationship, a great team and are all very excited,ā€ he said.

The entertainment world is now divided on what impact his move will have on the Idol franchise.

Many media personalities are already calling an end to the show, saying that without Cowell the show will simply not be interesting.

Others, however, have said that the show will flourish in the absence of Cowell, and look forward to seeing the series evolve in the next few years.

Whatever your thoughts are on Cowell, one thing is for sure: he will always be remembered for his efforts on American Idol.
