Eddie’s New Project: Sunday Footy Wrap

Channel Nine’s main man Eddie McGuire will co – produce a new AFL talk show for Telstra, called the “Sunday Footy Wrap”.

The show will be broadcast on Telstra NextG mobile phones and on Big Pond and will try a new way of reaching viewers, in other ways than just their television sets.

The show will feature the former Footy Show funny-man Trevor Marmelade, as well as Dermott Brereton, commentator Michael Christian and comedian Lawrence Mooney.

Eddie’s media group, McGuire Media will take half the responsibility, with Abundant Media (controlled by Cos Cardone, former head of light entertainment at Nine) taking the other half of responsibility.

The show will start this Sunday from 7:30pm, and will be treated as an experiment rather than a ratings bonanza.

The director of Telstra Media, Chris Taylor, said he hops fans take advantage of the software available.

“With Telstra set to launch BigPond TV through IP televisions and the new T-Box during the 2010 footy season Sunday Footy Wrap will soon be available in the living rooms of the fans as well as through the mobiles, the web and Telstra’s new T-Hub,” he said.

Host Dermott Brereton said he was just looking forward to having a bit of fun with the show.

“Rather than wait until later in the week, Sunday Footy Wrap will be the first footy show on television to wrap up the weekend’s highlights,” he said.

“An essential part of the program will be viewer participation through social media services like Twitter and if we think their opinion counts, we’ll have them on the show in the following weeks to talk more.”
