Weeds Is Back

Weeds is back for its fifth season in the US and is still as witty as the first. The comedic TV series has gained huge success, confronting dark and troublesome issues through a humorous light.

Pot-growing soccer mum Nancy has come along way since the first season of Weeds but in season five of the hit show the main character is still smart, funny, cruel and a little scary. The comedy series has continued to grow (pardon the pun) since it first aired on US TV in 2005.

We have been lucky enough to view Weeds on our own Channel nine network, but are still two seasons behind the US. If you missed the first season of Weeds on Australian TV and haven’t managed to watch it on DVD, you can see where it all started on Bluray as of July 8th.

It is not hard to pick up the plot watching an episode of Weeds. If you have tuned in and caught a glimpse, you will easily warm to the characters and recognise situations after only five minutes. But seasons one to four are available on DVD if you want to understand the storyline a bit better.

The tight, sharp dialogue is what Weeds fans adore. The show is centered on widowed housewife Nancy who is struggling to make ends meet, and so becomes the neighbourhood’s marijuana dealer.

Weeds inspiration comes from current marijuana affairs in US and the explosion of growers and consumers in sunny California. Characters in the show all come in to contact with Nancy, and the nice small suburban town isn’t what it seems from the outside.

Nancy is a single mother of two children, Shane and Silas, one of which is in his teens, meaning Nancy’s life is never mundane. With raising two boys, helping brother Andy decide what to do with his life and attempting to expand her marijuana business- Nancy’s life is far from boring.

Over the five seasons Weeds has attracted millions of viewers and with the screening of season five, it is sure to continue. Season one of the popular series is available on Bluray on July 8th.
