Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities

Underbelly has just wrapped up on our TV screens for another season, but those still interested in the story of Australia’s organised crime can now watch their favourite episodes on DVD.

The second season of Underbelly: A tale of two cities was almost as successful as the first and captivated the entire nation. Underbelly has become one of the most popular television shows to hit the airwaves in Australia, and both the show and the actors within it have received high praise.

The second series takes a look back to 1976 where the organised crime was about to change- thanks to a Kiwi criminal Terry Clark. Clark (Matthew Newton) arrived in Sydney and like Carl Williams, started out as a small time crim- “a nobody who wants to be somebody”. And just like notorious gangland killer Williams, Clark knew the “big money was going to be in drugs – hard drugs.”

Throughout the show we see Clark also known as Mr Asia, ship drugs from Asia to Australian shores with the help of trusty business partner Robert Trimbole- businessman, drug baron and organised crime boss, whose alleged involvement with the death of anti-marijuana campaigner Donald Mackay made him a hot target with authorities in Griffith, NSW.

Trimbole had the contacts and worked with Clark to have one of the most fruitful business relationships in Australian history.

The second series was a prequel to the first and had audiences glued to their TV screens. Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities DVD release- 27 May 2009.
