Being social isn’t just for dummies and animals that gather into packs need to be smart. This is precisely what the Meerkats have done in the Animal Planet series Meerkat manor. Time magazine’s Jeffrey Kluger has suggested the meerkats in the hit TV show are smart- perhaps smarter than the other solitary animals that roam the Kalahari Desert.

Series four of the animal show has just aired throughout Europe and it will soon be our turn to view the Meerkat Manor series. The Animal Planet series that documents the lives of a group of wild meerkats has received huge popularity throughout the UK, US and Australia. People are fascinated with the struggles and triumphs the meerkats have to face in order to survive in Africa’s Kalahari Desert.

The hit TV series has been studied by many animal behaviour analysts but is a show that can be enjoyed by the everyday couch potato. If you missed the 1st, 2nd or third series on the documentary channel or on our own Channel Ten, then you can catch up on all the Meerkat gossip when it comes to DVD.

Meerkat Manor – The Story Begins comes to our shores on the 2nd July, and is a movies based on the popular TV show.  Each episode of the series and in the merrkat film,  the meerkats fight to survive- and you see it from their perspective.

The TV series was filmed over the course of ten years for a university study but has since made its way to international television. The Australian series of Meerkat manor was narrated by Mike Goldman and Bill Nighy in the United Kingdom.
